On Friday 25 March the whole school participated in our own Brescia House Earth Hour. All lights and non-essential electrical appliances were switched off between 08:30 and 09:30. The three electricity metres were read and we saved 38kWh. Saving this amount of electricity would allow us to use a 60 watt light bulb for 635 hours.
On Saturday 26 March many of our Brescia families participated in the global Earth Hour. The savings made in South Africa, during that hour, would supply the city of Bloemfontein with electricity for 24 hours.
Earth Hour has, therefore, once again been very successful. The challenge this year is for all of us to go beyond the hour and do something regularly to save electricity. Let us all make a difference by making EVERY HOUR, EARTH HOUR in 2011.
